THE UNCONSCIOUS or FROM PRESS – TO PRESS FREEDOM
by Florian Scheuba with Cornelius Obonya & Florian Scheuba
Investigative satirist and thoroughbred actor on the trail of Karl Kraus. In a pointedly satirical staged reading with texts by Karl Kraus and Imre Bekessy, quotes and conversations with Wolfgang Fellner, Eva Dichand and Thomas Schmid, Florian Scheuba and Cornelius Obonya show how explosive and spot-on Kraus’ criticism of venality and abuse of power in journalism still is today. In his stage play “Die Unüberwindlichen”, published in 1928, Karl Kraus created a literary monument and memorial to the controversial tabloid newspaper publisher Imre Bekessy. Almost 100 years later, revelations about the relationship between Austrian tabloid media owners and politics reveal astonishing parallels to the conditions once addressed by Kraus.
